Jewelry Care Guide

We want you to enjoy and cherish your Button Daisy jewelry for years to come! Here are a few things to keep in mind when caring for your piece.

14K GOLD-FILL

An excellent alternative to solid gold, and comes at a more reasonable price point. It is created by permanently applying a thick layer of solid gold to a high quality base metal (usually brass) through heat and pressure. It contains about 100 times more gold than the thin layer gold-plated jewelry contains, making it the better option when looking for durable jewelry as it will never flake, peel, or fall off. If cared for properly with a few of these tips below, gold-filled jewelry can last for years to come.

  • Keep pieces dry and clean to maintain their beauty.
  • Store your dry jewelry in an airtight container when not in use.

  • Remove jewelry during physical activities.
  • Remove jewelry when swimming and showering. It is safe to get your piece wet, but it is best to remove it to avoid exposure to water treated with chemicals or any harsh soaps and shampoos.

  • Avoid contact with chemicals, including: household cleaners, perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, shampoos, harsh soaps, and chlorine.

To prolong the life of your jewelry:

  • Regular hand polishing with a clean cloth is recommended to maintain your jewelry's beauty. We love to use a Sunshine Polishing Cloth to shine it back up.

  • Use mild soap and water to gently clean your piece. Do not use any abrasive brushes, cloths, or even paper towels to clean or dry your jewelry as the metal can get small scratches. Completely dry with a soft cloth or microfiber cloth, before storing.

STERLING SILVER

A versatile and durable precious metal alloy. It is composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% of other metals (usually copper). The addition of other metals is what makes it durable, long lasting, and perfect for everyday wear. Although jewelry can darken over time, it can be polished back to it’s original brightness. With the proper care, sterling silver jewelry can last a lifetime. Click below to see a few tips to extend the life of your pieces.

  • Store your dry jewelry in an airtight container to minimize oxidation.

  • Remove jewelry during physical activities.
  • Moisture promotes oxidation. Avoid leaving jewelry in the bathroom. Take off your piece when swimming and showering.

  • Avoid contact with chemicals, including: household cleaners, perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, shampoos, and harsh soaps.

Oxidation in your sterling silver piece is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Here are some steps to bringing back the shine:

  • Use mild soap and water to gently clean your piece. Do not use any abrasive brushes, cloths, or even paper towels to clean or dry your jewelry as the metal can get small scratches. Completely dry with a soft cloth or microfiber cloth, before storing.
  • Silver polishing cloths are an excellent choice for cleaning your piece.  We love to use and recommend a Sunshine Polishing Cloth to shine it back up.
  • Wear your silver piece regularly for a natural way to reduce the amount of darkened build up.
